Chlorine dioxide is most traditionally available in its two-part configuration, where Part 1 represents a sodium chlorite dilution and Part 2 a diluted acidic activator like citric acid. These are mixed one drop to one drop of each, allowed to activate for 30 seconds, then can be added to potentially unsafe water for safe drinking.
This is the preferential method for sanitizing otherwise questionably sourced water in the field by the military and outdoorsmen of all kinds. This two-part formulation is increasingly being found in survival and emergency kits.
Enter CDS 3000 PPM
Chlorine dioxide WPS water purification solution is a more convenient preparation for accessing the water purifying power of chlorine dioxide. Created via double distillation process, Chlorine Dioxide Solution or CDS 3000, does not need to be mixed, and the 3000 represents the 3,000 parts per million or 3000 PPM concentration, and is ready to use.
Increasingly, people are discovering new ways to use either the water purification drops, commonly referred to as WPD or the CDS 3000 solution.
In emergency situations where water may not be safe to drink, the active ingredient chlorine dioxide or ClO2 is the best way known to make unsafe water safe for human consumption. It is unique compared to other forms of sanitization in that it is made of one chlorine atom and two oxygen atoms. This imbues the molecule to be two-and-a-half times more pathogen killing power than other methods of oxidative sanitization.
Chlorine, for instance, is relatively effective at killing most pathogens. It consists of two chlorine atoms (Cl2) which gives it the ability to rob pathogens of two electrons which will result in the destruction of most harmful bacteria.
Then there is chlorine dioxide that can rob up to five electrons to cause the nastiest of treatment resistant pathogens to be eliminated, either on contact or within a minutes or longer exposure, if necessary.
This is why you find it in use in water treatment and distribution facilities because pathogens which may slip by other methods of treatment are safely eliminated by using chlorine dioxide.
For those who use chlorine dioxide to regularly purify their own drinking water, they are reporting that there are other advantages to doing so. Some even claiming dramatic health benefits. These people believe that chlorine dioxide has the same pathogen-killing ability inside the body as it does outside the body.
Sodium chlorite (Part 1) turns into chlorine dioxide when it is combined with an acid activator, like citric acid (Part 2). Other types of acid will also cause chlorine dioxide to be made from sodium chlorite, such as acetic acid, lactic acid, tartaric acid, or diluted hydrochloric, phosphoric, or sulfuric acids.
The two-part formulation is easy to use and one drop of each part can purify 8 ounces of water easily, though CDS 3000 would require 8 drops to be equal to one drop of water purification or WPD.

A huge advantage of using CDS 3000 over two-part products like NACS water purification drops is that it is reported that CDS 3000 has a more pleasant aftertaste in comparison. This may be due do being more stabilized and more highly refined to 3,000 parts per million via the distillation process.
A man by the name of Jim Humble accidentally discovered potential health benefits of chlorine dioxide when serving members of his mining team chlorine dioxide purified water as they were dying of malaria in the Amazon jungle in 1996. His men did not die. Instead, they returned to work after only four hours of drinking the purified water.
Ruminating over the events of that day, Jim Humble returned to the states and began researching and experimenting with chlorine dioxide. Ten years later, his disclosed results can be found in his book, The Master Mineral Solution of the Third Millennium.
Chlorine dioxide is safe when used as directed and requires no rinsing as it dissolves into a saline residue following activation within 30 minutes. The FDA has authorized the use of chlorine dioxide for industrial use for food product cleansing, handling, meat, dairy, and beverage processing, equipment disinfecting, and water treatment.
